Mother Teresa – Hollowed be thy name

Mohan Bhagavat, the RSS supremo while speaking in a conference made a reference to Mother Teresa (now Saint Teresa after the beatification). He said mother Teresa’s supposed service to the poor; the destitute was not without any motive. Her motive was conversion to ‘one true faith’. That was enough to ruffle many secular feathers. Many seculars, liberals came in unison against Bhagavat for commenting against a ‘noble’ soul. Many well-meaning people who are fed with the hallowed imagery of Teresa and of the missionary of charity came against Bhagavat strongly. [I remember studying a chapter on Mother Teresa in my middle school titled ‘Nirmala Hrudaya’ which translates into ‘Noble or Pure Heart’] Among others, the statement of Bhagavat did one good thing – It initiated a debate and more people got to know the real truth behind the supposed saint. But, did Bhagavat say anything wrong? Was he off the mark? When you try to investigate, you know the answer is no.

You may have your own misgivings on the RSS on various issues. But its service across the nation without motive can be seldom faulted. But can you say the same with respect to the Christian Missionaries? Not for a second, not once in a millennium. Charity is one of the important tools for proselytizing. They are pretty much open about it. Recently, the pope made the point amply clear. If the experience with the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster in South India is anything to go by, conversion is the pre-condition to get any kind of help from the missionaries. How low can these missionary hawks plumb? Nevermind. Now, coming to the issue on hand – Did Mother Teresa do the same? Yes, she did. It’s all well-documented by the first-hand accounts. It’s just that the Indian media is too lethargic and dishonest to dig out the truth.

Mother Teresa was a fundamentalist Christian. Like any fundamentalist of any religion, she minced no words about it and was pretty straightforward on the issue. In many of the interviews she stated her position as such. In one of her interviews, she was quoted saying "We are not nurses, we are not doctors, we are not teachers, we are not social workers. We are religious, we are religious, we are religious". She was against the use of contraception, against abortion and in fact in her Nobel Prize ceremony she proclaimed the greatest threat to world peace was abortion! Viola! Everyone was struggling to figure out the factor which was detrimental to world peace – This lady had an answer – abortion. Abrahamic religions especially Christianity exalts suffering as virtue. It springs from a fundamentalist belief – Man is a sinner. God sent his only son Jesus to earth to save us from sin and he suffered enormous pains in the process – all for us. So, if anyone is suffering, he is being closer to Jesus. This is one of the many other beliefs which shaped Mother Teresa’s psyche.

Money was never an issue for missionaries for charity as its PR machinery was very strong and millions of dollars kept pouring in. But, testimonies allude to the worst living conditions of the patients that were living there. Proper medication was not given even to the patients who were suffering from chronic diseases like cancer where pain was immense. Basic painkiller like morphine was also not given to many. When questioned, all was pushed under the carpet saying ‘love’ will substitute for all including necessary medications. It was a living hell. Christopher Hitchens called her ‘Hell’s angel’. Baptism was performed for the dying without anyone’s consent – as the process was altruistic because the motive was to ‘save’ the soul from eternal damnation.

No discussion on Mother Teresa would conclude without mentioning Christopher Hitchens’ name. He wrote a complete book on her with a provocative title – The missionary position. He along with Tariq Ali made a documentary for channel 4 – Hell’s Angel. Even before Hitchens, Dr. Aroup Chatterjee wrote a book on her - Mother Teresa: The Final Verdict, which challenged the popular perception of Teresa which we all had. In these works lists all the misdemeanors of Mother Teresa and her institution - misappropriation of money given for charity, hobnobbing with the worst of criminals and dictators and so on. Hitchens called her 'fraud, fanatic and a fundamentalist'.These are all very well documented. But the pusillanimous liberal media never dared a debate on it.

The fallen façade of the media – again!

Indian media as a rule treats the issues related to Christianity and Islam with kid gloves. This issue was no different. Forget getting deeper into the issue, the media did not have the guts to even take up the issue for the debate. Bhagavat had disturbed the hornet’s nest. Media treated Bhagavat like a man who had committed blasphemy for insulting their holy god. An honest or a neutral media would have ensured a debate in which there was a say for all the parties involved. But, that never happened. Only social media, blogs and a few online portals discussed the matter in depth. This is one of the outcomes of deification of any person. He becomes insulated from any criticisms or questions. The very act of questioning becomes a kind of blasphemous act. The way some media guys behaved as if it’s a crime to even question a revered figure like Teresa testifies the point. This just proves they lack two important qualities that are required for journalism – Intellectual rigor and honesty.

Mother Teresa was beatified in 2003. Beatification is the third step in the four-step canonization process. The main condition for a person to be beatified is that the person should have performed some miracles in others’ life which they should testify. This looks like classic case of superstition and sham. But as it is practiced by Christians, this will go unquestioned in most intellectual circles. The same media which doesn’t question this goes hammer and tongs whenever the issue is of Hindus. They question the authenticity of the Makar Jyoti in Sabarimala, they question the authenticity of Hindu gurus, and they question the rationale behind Hindu beliefs. Fair enough – As long as they question other faiths with same tenacity. That, they would never do. All in all, this entire incident was yet another naked display of pusillanimity and double-standards of our liberals and seculars.

Chit of a girl and Peter's Principle

Howard was doing great as a manager of a team of young professionals. Looking at his performance, the management decided to promote him to the post of VP. Initially things looked great. After a while, things started crumbling down. He could not function as per the expectations of the higher management; he could not handle the responsibilities. In short, he was incompetent for the new position. The phenomenon which describes this is called as peter’s principle. This is usually paraphrased as "Employees tend to rise to their level of incompetence". This was formulated in the book “The peter principle” authored by Laurence Peter and Raymond Hull.

We have our own version of Howard, don’t we? Watch CNN-IBN every night from Monday to Thursday at 22:00. There comes the feminine version of Howard called Sagarika Ghose. The program is titled “Face the nation” after popular American news program by the same name (The name can be shortened as FTN, you can substitute the F with your favorite F-word. The program qualifies for that, I assure you.)

This lady Sagarika was happy with writing on semi-porn stuffs and advocating, urging men that it's their duty to provide orgasms to their women. But alas she came to serious journalism, just like our Howard got promoted as the VP. Journalism once had high standards and required thorough subject knowledge, analyzing skills. If you ever doubted whether the standards have fallen, you just have to look at the purported journos like Sagarika, all your doubts will be removed at once. It becomes amply clear that the standard that journos used to have, has taken a severe beating. It just takes some stammering in English and some amount of glamor to be called a journo these days.

As far as I remember, the first ever article I read of SG was on caste system and how Purusha Sukta supports it. If you’ve taken trouble of reading that article, you’d arrive at this -What is SG’s problem? - Caste system. What’s her solution? Re-write Purusha Sukta. Splendid, isn't it!?. By the by, who is her authority? - Some Dalit writers in general, Kancha Iliah in particular. This is the man who harbors visceral hatred all that is Hindu and is a racist par excellence. This is the man who is frequently invited as an ‘expert’ on Hinduism on her show. Inviting Kancha Iliah to speak about Hinduism as an authority is akin to inviting Hitler to talk about Judaism (In terms of intense hatred they harbor – If you have followed the man, his activities and his writings, I think you would concur with me). Coming to the article – The article is so vacuous, has logical and factual holes so huge that you can drive your car through it. So, the less said about the article, the better it is.

This is the story of just one of her articles that I happen to distinctly remember. She has many such articles and shows in her repertoire that would insult your intelligence and militate against facts and reasoning. This is what made Ram Jethmalani to call her a chit of a girl. The drubbing she got from Jethmalani is an epic and should be a warning for other journos who are ignorant of the facts at hand and thrive on sensationalism. The blunders, willful deceptions and inane utterances of her and her ilk are chronicled and well lampooned in this site (or you can follow her on twitter for your daily dose of comic relief).

SG has passed through the aforementioned stage of Peter’s principle. She has risen to the level of incompetence for a long time now. In any decently run news channels, she would have been sacked long back for her stupid utterances and blunders. But the irony is that she is the deputy editor of a ‘reputed’ channel where her hubby is the editor. Media which is supposed to be one of the watch-dogs of democracy has fallen victim to a thing which severely compromises the principles of democracy – nepotism. The irony just died a million times over.

About time we paid heed to the warning of Peter Hammond

Random browsing has sometimes yielded me some wonderful information. Sometimes in fact, I’ve hit the goldmine. In one of those random browsing sessions I came across this man and his book in which he's made a few very interesting and accurate phenomenon resulting from the growth of Islam in any country. In fact in one of my earlier posts, I had mentioned about the propositions he had made.

As we witnessed fresh Islamic violence in many parts of India (again!) last year, I wondered whether the same propositions could be applied to individual states. Interestingly the results matched the proposition. Though it can't be taken as an axiomatic truth, it's very close to it.

So, what happened last year? Last July there were series of riots between the Bodos (large ethnic tribe of Assam) and Muslims in Assam, Azad-Maidan riots in Mumbai (the motive was nothing to do any issues related to India) and tens of riots in Uttar Pradesh, a state ruled by ultra-secular party called Samajwadi Party.

If you followed the usual ‘secular’ media, chances are less you knew the details of them. The UP story was almost blacked out by the entire spectrum of mainstream media. The secular lambs in media choke while reporting anything where the ‘secular’ parties are involved and people from the ‘religion of peace’ are the perpetrators. If not for the social media, we would never have known many crimes and even riots that mainstream media faithfully routinely blacks out.

Mea Culpa! I missed out another ‘secular’ state. Didn’t I? No, I have missed two in fact. We’ll come to the other one a little later. Let me talk about the first one: West Bengal. This February, West Bengal (24 Paraganas) saw a slew of anti-Hindu violence for avenging the alleged murder of an imam of the local mosque. Many were injured, many houses were destroyed. As with all other riots, media turned blind eye on this incident too.

What do these states have in common? – An overwhelming majority of Muslim population. Take a look at these figures:

UP – 17.1%
Kerala – 24.7%
WB – 25.2%
Assam – 30.93%
J & K – 67%

Note:

1) These figures are from 2001 census.

2) Given the immense growth and fertility rate among the Muslims all across the world, there should be considerable increase in these figures as well. Our government was so pusillanimous that it couldn’t disclose the breakdown based on religion in the 2011 census.

3) The figure that is given for J & K is of entire state of J & K. If you consider the Muslim population of only Kashmir valley, it’s more than 98% and it’s close to being a Dar al-Islam.

Alright! Now the obvious question - Can one infer such a thing i.e correlation between communal violence, Jihadi terrorism with the increase of Muslim population by some isolated incidents of violence? May be not! But there is no denying the fact that whenever the Muslim population increases beyond a point i.e. when they become the majority, the rights of the then minority will be in jeopardy.(Also, anti-national activities will rise. Same could be said about Christian-dominated regions like Nagaland or Mizoram but it has many other factors to consider, has a different context and is beyond the scope of this post)

To cut the long story start: Infiltration of Bangladeshis has been a big problem from many decades. It has affected both the states of West Bengal and Assam. Although well-known, the secular parties outrightly denied at worst or tried to play it down at best because the illegal immigrants for them don’t appear as national threats but as potential votes. That’s the level our ‘secular’ politicians have plumbed. This is the primary reason for the Muslim-Bodo clashes that happened last year. That’s the short story of two states. Now coming to the other two states: Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. Current political scenario in both the states is completely dominated by Muslims or those whose hearts selectively bleed only for Muslims. Their hearts bleed to an extent where they get ready to jettison terrorism cases against Muslim youths, who according to them are 'mistaken' as terrorists; to an extent they give hero’s welcome to a convicted terrorist like Madani. All in all, there is a huge competition to prove who is more secular in the lot. This kind of political climate provides a fertile ground for the anti-national activities. As recent intelligence has proved, these have become safe havens and breeding ground for Jihadi forces.

If this rampant minoritysm morphing as secularism goes unchallenged and if the same political climate continues where every issue of national importance is reduced to mindless debate of secularism vs communalism, if hindus continue to be in deep slumber then, consider a strong foundation is being laid towards making India an Islamic Republic.

Life in 140 characters

No, i never imagined it before i entered this zone. It was not 'just-another' social networking site. It beat my imagination.Yes, i am talking about Twitter and my experience in it for just over half an year. Social networking is something that i always admired for host of reasons apart from entertainment and networking.

Twitter is the perhaps the first and the most popular site to introduce the concept of micro-blogging. The restriction of 140 characters is obviously inspired by SMS. Just over 6 years of its creation, the effect the twitter has brought about is really amazing. Every celebrity worth his salt would have an account in twitter and facebook.

Though facebook and twitter are essentially social networking sites, there are many differences when it comes to the actual usage. Facebook is more towards entertainment but whereas twitter is more towards information. Your identity hardly matters in twitter but not so in facebook. Someone differentiated them pretty well stating "In facebook who you are is more important than what you say, but in twitter it's just the opposite". So, you can see many people with concealed identitities garnering a lot of followers because they are saying the right things despite their unknown identities.

When any news erupts, no social media reacts as swiftly as twitter. If one has his area of interest, and knows whom to follow, he can get a hell lot of information in that field. This has been my experience so far. Even the news that main stream media blacks out for various reasons can be found in twitter. So, if you are an infomaniac, this is the place for you. You'll have a lot of like minded people and there can be great many discussions.

One more positive i have found out of twitter is that i have found many good bloggers who are way better read and way better informed than the mainstream writers that we daily encounter in the newspapers. Through twitter, they are able to convey some important things to wider audience. Twitter has given them some considerable fan following as well. Till date, i have read many good blogs of many people. I wouldn't have known about those blogs if not for twitter. (In the near future,I intend to write about some of the good bloggers that i have encountered. So, I am not going into the details here).

There are many other reasons to admire twitter. In my opinion it's impeding the fanatic pace of mainstream media which was/is peddling lies all the way. This is no mean task. That's why you see them cry foul in twitter that rightists (or 'Internet Hindus' as they are fondly named!) have taken control over twitter. This, all the way comfortably forgetting that the communists and pseudo-secularists have hijacked the whole nation and taking it systematically to the dogs. All these years, the main stream media had no challenges. With the advent of twitter and many other social networking sites, they no more can lie through their teeth.

I only wish social media in general & twitter in particular grows from strength to strength because mainstream media has more or less failed in carrying the responsibility of being the fourth pillar of democracy. I fervently hope twitter is here to stay and for good!

Secularism, its Indian version & Saffron terror

There are many corrupted words amidst us. Some of them are god, love, soul etc. People have misused these words so much that they have deviated from their original meaning long long ago. Whenever people use these words you can be assured that they are using them in the wrong sense in most of the cases. We have one more word in India which is more corrupted than any other words and the word is secularism. Even though every party and ‘intellectuals’, journalists talk about it, they don’t have a clue about it whatsoever.

There is an immense need today to define secularism than ever because of its rampant misuse. Just an example: If you see the political parties most of them call themselves secular and almost all unequivocally maintain BJP as a communal party. In fact, there is no party which is absolutely secular in this nation. BJP tries to woo the majority vote bank. The rest of the parties try to woo the minorities eyeing on their vote bank and shamelessly call themselves secular. If BJP is communal then rest of the parties are communal too. But they act on the garb of secularism.

If we observe the appeasement policy of the political parties and the 'secular' media, we clearly can infer they will woo only the majority among the minorities but not the real minorities. That is to say, if there is a conflict between the Sikhs and the Muslims, you can be sure that they take the side of Muslims even though Sikhs are the real minorities compared to the Muslims. The real minorities in India are Parsees, Jains, Buddhists. But the media portrays Muslims and Christians as the only two minorities. Politicians don't have any problems with that because there is where their vote bank lies.

Secularism in the real sense should mean there should not be any kinds of discrimination whatsoever based on caste, religion and sex. But does the situation in India echo this fundamental characteristic of secularism? The answer is no. There is obvious deviation from the real secularist principles. Or to put it in a better way, India was never a secular republic in the real sense like say the U.S. In the U.S, it doesn’t matter what religion, race, or sex the person belongs to, he would have equal opportunity in all the spheres. Competence and ability are the only criteria for ascendance in any fields. Unfortunately, secularism exists just as a word in India. Or to say it in a better way, secularism is just a circumlocution of minorityism. When media claims it has championed secularism, you can be sure that it has championed minorityism.

K.M. Munshi had warned about this over fifty years ago:

"If, however, the misuse of this word 'secularism' continues ... if, every time there is an inter-communal conflict, the majority is blamed regardless of the merits of the question... the springs of traditional tolerance will dry up. While the majority exercises patience and tolerance, the minorities should adjust themselves to the majority. Otherwise the future is uncertain and an explosion cannot be avoided."

If you see the recent trends and happening in the country Munshi’s words appear prophetic. The latest example is the communal violence bill that the government is mooting to pass. According to the bill, when any communal violence occurs, no matter who instigated it, the majority will always be the culprit. If the bill is passed, it will surely have disastrous consequences in the long run. Though, most of the times majority has exercised tolerance, it can’t be expected till perpetuity when their own existence is at stake.

Discrimination is rampant in India based on the religion and caste. Somehow, the appeasement of religious minorities has become official principle of most of the political parties. The trend has reached dangerous levels where people are ready to compromise on national security just to appease some section of society. If the same trend continues, the doomsday for India is not far away. Someone had put it well “In a democratic polity the power rests with the majority with due protection of the minority interests. But in India this principle has been turned on its head by rampant minorityism. The wishes and feelings of majority can be trampled underfoot and ignored with impunity in the secure knowledge that the minority vote banks will deliver power to the ones who most stridently champion their cause. The majority because of division in its ranks can do little but wring its hands in dismay”.

About the caste politics: It is impossible to do politics in India for people who don’t understand caste equations. It has percolated at all levels of governance. The nation clearly discriminates people based on caste. None would have counted the kinds of reservation that exists in this country. India is perhaps the only nation where many group of people wants desperately to remain backward. There is a huge competition to remain backwards. Some expedient politicos like Mayawati and the likes have made caste, religion based reservation their trump cards.

Now nowhere existing saffron terror is imminent

In one of the press conferences the then home minister Chidambaram said that the saffron terror was more dangerous than any forms of terror. There was one incidence then in Malegaon (in which some Hindus were accused of an act of terror) which prompted him to give such ludicrous remark. One can be sure that even thousand such incidences by the Islamist terrorists would not have prompted the ‘secular’ person like him to talk about the green terror which was more global than any kinds of terror.

Rahul Gandhi who is a novice in some fundamentals of administration and has got to the place not by any competence but by pure nepotism was reported voicing the same opinion of that of Chidambaram (Wikileaks reports). If someone asked both these ‘intelligent’ people to explain the statement made, they wouldn’t surely be having any answers. It was obviously done to appease some section of people and also to satiate the hunger of the ‘secular’ media of India which was waiting for this.

When Malegoan blasts happened, when it was said that for the very first time an act of terrorism happened for Hindutva ideology (at least it was reported so), it really made some sections of people extremely happy. It made many pseudo-secular politicians, ‘sickular’ media, ‘intellectuals’ very happy. The reason is simple. Most of the terrorist acts in India happened for two ideologies: Either Islamic or Marxist. So, whenever people talked about the Islamic fundamentalism the ‘great’ media resorted to same old set of rhetoric ‘Terrorism has no religion’, ‘Terrorism has more socio-politico-economic causes than religions ones’ and the likes. But now they’d found a new defense in the form of Hindutva terror (though the case is still in the court). The alacrity that they showed in this case, had they showed for the right causes, they would have brought some awareness among people and done something good for the nation. The same people who said ‘terrorism has no religion’ did not shy away attributing this lone case to ‘saffron’ and thus to Hindutva ideology. This is a clear display of double standards and nothing short of intellectual prostitution. Most of these media are the brothels in which the person who has paid (in some form) gets the chance to screw whatever he wants. The thing that always gets screwed is the truth.

Now Hindus (those who are not deluded by some tacky ideology) are beginning to understand that no leader or political parties can protect their interests. Their great nation, culture are under attack from within and without. Series of (global) conspiracies are in line for them. They are on their own and can rely on none. They are being killed like animals by Islamic religious fanatics or by Marxist ideological fanatics. Their tolerance is being seen as a weakness, not as a virtue. It is plain insanity to clamor for tolerance when their very existence is at stake. The great Sikh guru Gobind Singhji said it rightly “When all means of redressing a wrong have failed, it is both just and righteous to unsheathe the sword”!!

CBI : Congress Bureau of Investigation!

CBI,as we all know is an autonomous body. But there is no denying of the fact that, it will be controlled to some extent by the party which is in power at the center. But the congress handles CBI in a way that makes mockery of the very institutional existense. If ever people had complete faith in one investigating agency, that was CBI. Now the CBI out of that belief, people are not in a position to trust any investigating agency.
Congress, time & again has used CBI to meet its selfish ends.We can take innumerable examples like those of Lalu Yadav,Mayavati etc. They are using the CBI literally like dogs. The latest entry to this is Mr.Shah of Gujarat.I am not commenting about the role of Mr.Shah in Sohrabuddin murder case but just observe the timing of this.
When Indo-Pak talks have failed miserably and when the prices have reached the peaks, congress had this old weapon of CBI.They wanted the whole attention of the Indian people to shift from those burning issues to the issue which was less significant. And they made that insignificant issue to look like a very significant very successfully. The "SICKular" English media always backs up congress without any exception.
If one looks at present day India, one can say even god would find it difficult to rule it!!!

English media does it again

If you observe these sardesais,& burkha dutts you will observe one thing in common. These people wear the mask of secularism and by default fail to understand the essence of being secular. This is not the problem of only these kinds of people. This is the problem of most of the people who think themselves as the paragons of secularism. In India secularism means appeasing the so-called minorities and not giving a hoot to the majority.
Let’s take a very recent example of what happened so-called god’s own country kerala. A group of religious fanatics cut the arms of a professor. But this incident did not become big news at all. This incident found a place in the news channels for a day or two. But just remember when Varun Gandhi spoke that he would cut arms of those who try to harm Hindus, it became a prime news for the channel for over a month. For that, he had to spend some days in jail as well, even though he came from the most influential family of Indian politics.
This is the disadvantage of being a Hindu in India. You can’t speak out your mind. No matter what atrocities others do to you, you are bound to be tolerant. If you react, it is branded as 'saffron terror' and the English media has mastered the art of branding. I conclude by saying there are no enemies to Hindus except Hindus.
